In the short term and the long term, I really want to get to know a lot of new and different people. College, specifically at CMU, is a really good opportunity for me to achieve this because of the diversity of the students and faculty here.
questions!
What do you look for in a potential big sister? (personality traits, type of relationship, dynamic)
I would really like to get know someone who's really stylish, friendly, open to trying new things, and maybe a business or design major. It would also be cool if we could bond over music taste or style (shopping) or shows. I really like K-dramas so it'd be nice to talk about that. I also really like trying new foods/drinks so it would be really fun to get to hang out and try new places! :))
who do you look up to?
My older sister. She's 8 years older than me and, as a child, I spent a lot looking up to her (I still do). But she was always very responsible, did good in school, and was also cool. Even now, I will steal clothes from her closet or read her books. She would also bring me to hang out with her friends when she was in high school and I was still in elementary school. She would be shopping with her friends and I'd tag along or they'd be trick-or-eating and I'll trail behind with my bucket of candy.
What kind of personalities do you get along with?
I usually get along really well with other extraverts or people that are super outgoing and not afraid to overshare, even from the beginning. It's really easy for me to connect with people that way when there aren't any barriers or filters. But I understand that that kind of relationship can also take time to build. Though a lot of the times, those qualities makes conversations and hangouts so much more memorable and funny.
What are three qualities that you look for in friends?
Funny, Open, Honest
How do you best feel supported? (by friends, family, teachers, etc.)ember Process for Kappa Phi Lambda?
I feel very supported by family but at college, I get a lot more from friends because of the university environment. Especially because I dorm on campus and live in such close proximity with my roommates/friends, it's easier to get close with them and reconnect if things get intense or stressful with class or other things in my life.
What is something you're proud of?
I'm really proud of my ability to adjust to life at CMU the past semester. I would say that I spent a lot of time freshman fall worrying about classes so I didn't have enough balance of social life, sleep, or extracurriculars but I think this semester, especially since my classes are lighter, I'm doing a lot better in terms of managing everything. Even though everyone around me is doing so much, I think I'm almost making the best of my time and resources.
What do you hope to gain from the New Member Process for Kappa Phi Lambda?
It was really fun to meet everyone and the events were also really enjoyable. In terms of the events that I attended (cultural, late night), the activities were engaging enough to be doable and simple but I also had an opportunity to really get to know some of the sisters. Some things I'm hoping to learn is how often sisters get to get together and what Carnival events we get to take part.
