Isabella's College & Career Goals

As for hobbies, I’m really into cooking, am a wannabe baker, and I also love coffee, desserts, and just trying out new food places in general. I also really love video editing even though I haven’t done much of it just because of how much time it takes, but I’m looking to get into it more in college. I’ve been trying to get more creative, so I started crocheting 2 years ago, and I’m also currently learning to draw. I also love taking pics. Back in Taiwan, there were korean style photobooths everywhere, so I would go with my friends, and now my dorm wall is filled with photo strips of me and them. I also have a digicam, and I love taking pics of pretty scenery or other people. I also like keeping things organized, so I’ll have a google calendar or notion for everything, and I go by more of a minimalistic aesthetic. I currently have a new year resolution of running every three days, so I’ve been running for quite a while, and I also gym occasionally.

In college, I hope to develop myself both academically, socially, and on a personal level to become happier. For academics, i want to do good in college, but at the same time i want to learn to put a barrier between academics and other things in my life, because i don’t want academics to be all of my college life. i kinda of did that in high school, and i did not like it so i learned my lesson and now i hope for a better balance. In terms of social, i want to open up more to people, meet more people and make friends, expand my bubble because back in taiwan everyone in my school was really similar to each other, so i want to meet different types of people just to get a better grasp of the world. And on a personal level, i hope i figure out what i want to do in life, because right now i feel like i’m just floating around and doing the same things as everyone else. So i’m not completely sure what my goals in life are yet, im not too ambitious, but i do want a stable and peaceful life so i hope to just get a well paying job that won’t take up too much of my time. As for future careers, I’m obviously still exploring but i would try out quant. i think i want a fun SWE job like maybe video game developer, but whatever it is, i really hope i enjoy the job, because according to my brother who just graduated, life gets kind of boring after college and a lot of it is just your job so if you don’t like it then you’re kind of cooked.

questions!

What do you look for in a potential big sister? (personality traits, type of relationship, dynamic)

I hope they care about their role as being a big sister, help me get adjusted to being in kpl. I also hope they're active, as in we can go out together and do stuff, and for desired personality traits I'd prefer more outgoing.

who do you look up to?

I don’t really look up to anyone a lot specifically, but there’s this Twitch streamer called “39daph”, and I look up to her because she’s funny, kind, reasonable, and she’s gone through a lot to get to where she is today. She worked hard to become a streamer, went through a lot of mental health issues but got through it by doing what she loves, drawing, and it also got her to her career today. She’s kind in the sense that she shaved her head when her friend got cancer, but she also gives IDGAF energy (in a good way.) I know there’s probably a lot of people like her, but I picked her because I used to watch her streams all the time while I did my homework.

What kind of personalities do you get along with?

What are three qualities that you look for in friends?

I think I can get along with most personalities, but especially with lively people/yappers because I’m more introverted and more of a listener. I can also get along with quiet people, but there would just be a lot of silence which I also do enjoy as quality time. Some personalities I might not be able to get along with are if they’re always really lazy, and they won’t do anything out of their comfort zone because I’ll feel like when I spend time with them it makes me feel a little helpless. Or another personality I might not be able to keep up with is if they’re completely full of energy, always doing things, and don’t rest at all because I’ll get a bit tired. But other than those two extremes, I consider myself really easygoing and I often get along with most people I meet because I find everyone really fun and they always have something unique about themselves.

1. honesty
2. understanding of mutual help, like they cant just take and take, its more like take and give
3. communicate, like i want to know if i did anything that offended them

How do you best feel supported? (by friends, family, teachers, etc.)ember Process for Kappa Phi Lambda?

From friends: Cheer me on when I'm stressed or remind me of my qualities because sometimes I forget and lose confidence easily. Spending time with friends also makes me feel supported, or them just be there just makes me happier.
From family, I have stereotypical Asian parents so they usually keep asking me to do this and that, but when I'm really stressed they stop asking me to do things so I know that's a sign of their support. Also, my mom always cuts fruit for me, and when I'm staying up really late she also checks on me every now and then. From teachers, they check on me and make sure I'm okay with the assignments and stuff, and when I fall asleep in class they let me go to the nurse and just rest.

What is something you're proud of?

Since I just got here, I’m really proud of my friend group from high school, like I’m really happy for them about the journey that lies ahead of them, even though we’re all hours away from each other. I’m proud of all the time we spent together during seniorities, and I guess I’m just proud of the connection that we have together, because I hated everything from high school aside from them and they’re the only reason I got by.

What do you hope to gain from the New Member Process for Kappa Phi Lambda?

I hope to get closer to other new members, closer to the sisters, and I hope to be able to learn about how KPL works and how I can maximize what I put in and get out of it.
