Tell us About Yourself​

I am Fiona Xia, a first year student studying Economics in Dietrich College. I was born in Xi'An, China and moved to California when I was 11 years old. I am part of a large and lively family with three siblings, one older and two younger. I had always taken care of the errands in the house since none of my parents speak English, and I was glad that I could learn more about everyday skills. I think I am an extrovert for the most part and love to talk and connect with different people. I am very involved in different clubs in my high school including finance, economics and hope to continue in Carnegie Mellon.
Outside of academics, I enjoy being part of different service projects. I had held many financial workshops before for special needs families and invited guest speakers who are experts in those areas, but these events are often limited in scale. I hope to be a part of a larger service project that can really impact more people.
I think art is also a part of my life, even though I am not super good at it. I had always loved to draw, even though it can take a long time to complete an artwork. I think drawing is a kind of self-expression and it really enlightens me when I am down. That also adds on to the reason that I dye my hair red. I want to be a continuous flame and warm others.
